Audio Spotlight Brings The Unique Works Of Photographer Richard Ehrlich To Life At The Morrison Hotel Gallery

Holosonics' Audio Spotlight® directional speakers allow visitors to experience the same emotions as the artists depicted in Richard Ehrlich's photos in his "Face the Music" exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery.

'Face the Music' using Audio Spotlight directional speakers

Imagine being a guest in the home of Ringo Starr...he takes you into his music library, running his hands over the hundreds of records in his collection until his fingers stop on the one that moves him the most. He pulls the record out of the jacket and onto the turntable, lowers the needle and turns up the volume. As you sit across the couch in wonder, you listen to the ebb and flow of the music while watching Ringo's reaction to what you are both hearing. Maybe the song triggers a memory for him that evokes a tear or a laugh or moves him to start singing along. Maybe it does for you as well.

Famed photographer Richard Ehrlich, along with Audio Spotlight speakers, captured these intimate musical moments in his "Face the Music" exhibit at the Morrison Hotel Gallery of NYC in the fall of 2016. The Morrison famously curates hundreds of the world's most exceptional collections of rare and iconic music photography for international exhibition and sale. In "Face the Music", Ehrlich captures images of the world's greatest musical minds, including Ringo Starr, Herbie Hancock, Iggy Pop and Roger Daltry, listening to their own favorite music while inviting guests to experience the same emotions as the artists by listening to same song.

"The Audio Spotlight speakers playing the artists song as they were viewing the photo provided a compelling musical context to the photographs in our exhibition." - Aaron Zych, Gallery Director at the Morrison Hotel Gallery

This exhibit included 8 sound enhanced photos, each of which used an AS-168i Audio Spotlight speaker to deliver to gallery guests the actual music each artist was listening to at the moment their portrait was captured. The collection of audio was able to run simultaneously in a 25' x 60' gallery, broadcasting a beam of sound only to the intended viewer at each photograph, without disrupting the other exhibits. Adding an intimate glimpse and direct connection with which each guest could fully appreciate every photograph, the Audio Spotlight technology was the perfect tool to harmoniously complement Ehrlich's brilliant photography. Patrons were able to experience the world's greatest musical minds like never before, opening a world of private, intense, expressive moments which brought new meaning to music photography.

Audio Spotlight in Action

The Audio Spotlight system creates focused beams of sound by using a narrow beam of ultrasound as a "virtual" sound source. While ultrasound itself is outside the range of human hearing, this innovative technique causes the air itself to change the ultrasound's "shape" as it travels. This change leads to the creation of clear sound that can be directed to a precise location, with directivity and control far exceeding any traditional loudspeaker. This directional audio technology is regularly used for enhancing a wide variety of commercial applications including museums and galleries, digital signage, retail displays, trade exhibits, and art installations around the world. Holosonics was a proud partner in enhancing the experience of this gallery exhibit.
