Dr. F. Joseph Pompei demonstrates Audio Spotlight at a recent technical conference in Europe

Holosonics' Founder and CEO, Dr.  F. Joseph Pompei has been chosen to speak next week at the 177th Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America (ASA) in Louisville, Kentucky. Dr. Pompei, a pioneer in the use of ultrasound as an acoustic projector, will join a panel of other audio industry experts during the ASA's "Nonlinear Acoustics for Non-Specialists" session on Tuesday, May 14.

The Acoustical Society of America, which holds two meetings each year, was founded in 1929 and currently has more than 7,500 members. The Society is one of the world's oldest and most respected organizations dedicated to promoting the knowledge and practical applications of acoustics. The "Nonlinear Acoustics for Non-Specialists" session at the event will provide an outreach to the broad audience of the ASA by presenting a "landscape sketch" of nonlinear acoustics, including historical context, general theories, and industrial applications.

Audio Spotlight creates sound in a narrow beam, just like light

In his presentation, "Audio Spotlight: Sound from Ultrasound", Dr. Pompei will discuss Audio Spotlight technology, which is a patented, revolutionary technique that allows high-quality sound to travel in tight, narrow beams, like light from a laser or spotlight. Audio Spotlight directional speakers have been implemented worldwide in a variety of environments that include museums, libraries, airports, retail stores, hospitals, tradeshows and digital signage.

Beams from Audio Spotlight speakers can be directed at specific listeners, providing a private audio experience without headphones, or they can be projected against surfaces like lighting, creating sound sources in positions completely independently of a speaker's position - creating a true "surround sound" without the use of traditional loudspeakers.

"It's very exciting for me, personally, and for all of us on the Holosonics team to be asked by the ASA to present a session on Audio Spotlight technology during their conference, which is a very prestigious event in the audio industry," said Holosonics founder Dr. F. Joseph Pompei. "At the request of the ASA, my presentation will highlight both the unique technical aspecs of Audio Spotlight technology, as well as practical considerations, with the goal of complementing the topic of nonlinear acoustics."

ABOUT ACOUSTICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA

The Acoustical Society of America, which was formed by a group of scientists and engineers interested in acoustics, held its first meeting in 1929 with a charter membership of about 450. The group publishes a wide variety of material related to the knowledge and practical application of acoustics for scientists, engineers, psychologists, physiologists, architects, musicians, and speech communication specialists. The Society's mission is to generate, disseminate, and promote the knowledge and practical applications of acoustics.
